got the factors causing the BGA under control, but theres still BGA in small spots around the tank. Read about dosing peroxide with syringe on spots, and it seems to work great! However theres leftover bits of BGA all around the moss covering this driftwood piece... Could i super dose a 5gallon bucket of water and dunk the driftwood in there? would my moss be okay? anyone have info on moss vs peroxide lol
Hope this helps...... This has been my experience and what I follow. So far no issues.
To spot dose in the tank with H2O2
Turn off filters
Fill syringe with 2 ml per total tank volume size* (not actually water). NEVER GO MORE THEN 2ML per Gal. You can start with less. BUT NEVER MORE THEN 2ML.
Direct a small amount directly on the algae underwater
Wait 15min
Do 50% water change
2hrs later turn filters back on
Wait 1 wk before additional spot dosing.
If you have snails or shrimps this could be a little harder on them Vs fish. But it has worked even with them.
The Protocol for doing a DIP With H2O2
There is 2 ways. Smaller amount with longer Dwell time in the dip
Or More concentrated amount with shorter time in the dip.
The First would be Smaller amount longer dwell time.
5ml of H202 to a gal of water. Soak plant or driftwood for 6 hours. Change water Rinse and return.
OR
Stronger amount and shorter dwell time.
10ML H2O2 to 1gal water and let it soak for 1 Hour and then change the water and flush. Let sit. Then return.
You can also try using a spray bottle with strait 3% H2O2. Doing this I would spray it. Let it set for 5 minutes then add a gallon of water let it sit for 1 hour and then change the water with fresh. Let it sit for an hour and then return.
Some of these protocals can be used together or to help cure a tank.
You could do spot dosing inside the tank, if that doesnt work you could go as far as doing the long or the short dip. BUT remove all your Fish, shrimps and snails from the tank put in another tank or place for time being. Drain the water from your BBA infested tank. Use the spray bottle with the strait 3% H2O2 and spray all plants, glass and substrate you can with a nice mist. Let sit 5 minutes fill tank. Let sit for one hour. Change the water. Let run for one more hour and re-add livestock. Should notice results with in the first few days to week.
It can also help before you treat any of it to also try and pluck it off first.
There is also a Bleach method that ive used as well that works well with many algae. In most cases depending on where my plants come from. I will bleach treat the plants before they go into my tank. It can also be done with H2O2.
Hope that helps feel free to shoot me any questions.
