I am in the porcess on setting up my 125. While it is cycling I am going to set up the qt tank to introduce the new fish I am buying. At this point an ich oubreak would be a disater! I am hearing more and more that people at using an sg of 1.009 for qt as it will kill the parasites. Does anyone here do this for quarantine on new fish?

Yeah, that would be more for a dip process. I am sure you have heard of freshwater dip to kill desease in corals and such, but its not a good idea for fish.Introducing saltwater fish for a freshwater environment is going to cause pressure that will make their bodies expand and cause internal damage.

Steve, I must have read the same article that you did. I chose to run copper in my quarantine tank and did a fresh water dip with methylene blue. I keep all fish in Q tank for at least 4 weeks. Had an ich breakout and it wiped me out, so I decided to be very safe. The question I have always had is when you bring the fish home in the LFS water, should you acclimate the fish to the Q tank and then dip or dip and then acclimate in the Lfs water. If you do it the 2nd way you are putting the fish bach in the LFS water(which may have bad parasites in it or worse), but if you do it the 1st way anything on the fish could get into the Q tank. I dont think you could dip and then go straight to the Q tank without proper acclimation. I know its wordy but if you think about it either way is not perfect.
