oops my fish just laid eggs last night! I will send pics. The Blue Leopard (father) and Red Velvet similar to Maroon (female) cleaned the water intake and she laid eggs last night. What do I do now? I was considering getting another discus this weekend for my other fish since he has been run off. Any ideas? Doing a water change disturb them? Get a smaller tank?:1zhelp:

:y220e:Congrats

Congrats! I don't know what else you have in the tank to help you out with that. It pays sometimes to leave a light on for them near where they are fanning the eggs. Keeps the egg predators that come out in the dark away. You can do a water change, but don't let the water drop below the eggs. And match the fresh water chemistry to the existing water chemistry. And sit back and wait. Three days you might have wrigglers! Don't disturb them too much. The other discus will be fine in there for now. No need to remove him.

Hello, I don't know if you are online right now but I have been getting conflicting info. how many days until they may hatch? They are changin color from white to darker color I am guessing the male did his job and they are becoming "little discus". Should I separate them from the other fish? I am going to do a small water change; don't want to disturb to much.

eggs usually hatch in 3-4 days..if you look close you'll see tails and eyes..these are wigglers..they usually stay put or the parents may move them if they think they need to.
usually best to try and leave them alone.
the wigglers will wiggle for about 3-4 more days then freeswim(usually attached to parents) they will feed off the parents slime coat for a bit then gradually wean off to food. basically you go from eggs(fertile) to swimmers 7-8 days.

My wife was telling me that a site on the net mentioned that the eggs that are white have not been fertilized is this true? I am guessing that there is 30-40 eggs maybe more: doesn't seem like many.

The eggs are all turning white

I have a feeling my eggs were not fertilized by the male. Something does not seem right. The male maybe young I am not sure. Any ideas would be appreciated.
