I am going to be in sooooo much trouble!

Nice pickups! I think the recommended tank size for a p. alleni is 20 gallons as they get pretty big and are active, they need a good bit of floor space. Also they are total escape artists so make sure he's got no spaces to climb out of! I had one myself and he grew from like 3 to 6" in the 6 months we had him, unfortunately he passed away due to a bad molt.

I am happy with the betta, not sure about the cray. But my husband just told me when I redid my big tank (just got my new fish yesterday) from mbuna to South American....."That is enough for a while". He is out of town working until next week.....won't he be surprised.

Can anyone tell from the picture what kind of betta he is?

Bettas

The Betta is beautiful. I am new Betta owner myself. My Betta, Max, loves the current my HOB puts out. He likes to swim upstream and float back. He also chases my cories all around their 20 gallon long. Just make sure he has something to sleep on. Mine wiggles himself into the anachris and lets it support him while he sleeps. By the second day he was coming to my voice and eating bloodworms from my fingers. I am now a convert to Bettas and Cories. :headbang2:
Here is his pic.

It is a basic male betta (Betta splendens)

I dont know if anyone answered you but your betta is a veil tail or VT. You can put other fish with him but nothing in extreme because of the tank size and it not being cycled. Cories are good betta mates ( my bettas all 10 of them are housed individually) but they can coexist. Fish with non flowy finnage or flashy colors..etc. Snails can also make tank mates but this depends ultimately on your fish. For the tank, I would reccomend silk plants of live. Plastic plants tend to rip the fins and make them look jagged. Same with sharp ortaments. But he is gorgeous. I didnt catch it but does he have a name?

Thank you. My daughter just came home from school and decided she likes the betta better. lol....."Mom it is purple and blue and red!!! My favorite colors! Can he be in my room!"

I may be trying to rehome a crayfish.

I think we are going to call him Lucky. I do not plan on adding anything to his tank for at least a month. Then maybe, we will see. He is swimming all over the place exploring I guess. Is it possible to over feed him? I dropped 4 little pellets in there and he gobbled em up and came back to the opening on the tank looking like is that all there is.

Thats a very nice betta you have there. As for the betta itself you could try some shrimp if you have good cover.I have heard of people with oto and dwarf corys too.

FWIW bettas are just fine with good water movement but they have to build there muscles since they have been in a cup for so long.i have a betta in a 29G community where she swims into the current sometimes lol
