Hey.

I'm new at this so can someone please help me? I have a 10 gallon tank with two little goldfish and one of them looks like something ripped through it bottom lip or a rock is stuck in its mouth or something. They're very, very messy so that might have something to do with it. Please help someone because i have noooo idea whats wrong. The fish was only 24 cents at Petco but its still my fishy and my friend :(

Well, as I've already apparently said ;), you need a bigger tank. My dad's feeder goldfish in his pond have grown from tiny, less then an inch long, fish into big bellied three to four inch fish over the summer. He wanted me to take them and put them into my tank, since I told him not to let them freeze in the pond over the winter. But I told him there was no way I could fit all 10 or so fish in my tanks--only maybe two in my 55 gallon.

Sarcare, what is location and depth of pond? My dad's been keeping koi in his pond--@6 ft. deep, for 3 or 4 years--northern central NC, cold and ice in winter although not sustained as up north.

They are totally going to die in this pond--it is only a couple of feet deep, maybe three tops. My dad recently told me he is thinking of getting a heater, as they have power out there at the pond. The biggest problem for him is keeping the leaves out of the pond, as they usually shut it down and drain it in the fall to muck out the fallen leaves. He said he'd get a net to put over it to keep off the leaves. If all this fails to materialize, I've found a lfs near him who'll take the fish in. No one there wants to fish them out though, and I live accross the country and wont be going to visit until December.

Did I not get a memo? Yes, goldfish get large, but 14 inches? HUH? A relative of mine at one time kept 2 55g tanks with goldfish in them and they never in their long lives exceeded six inches!
