I have a 55 gallon freshwater community tank. I recently purchased a batch of new fish and I have completely spaced what 2 of those fish are. I must have been having a blond moment when I was in the pet store! Anyways, I've been through every list of fish and nothing comes close in resemblence...except a green Chromide. I know these can't be cichlids. Anyone familiar with a 2 inch white to gray fish with vertical black stripes?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Almost looks like scats...

Severum

Ok. I said to the guy at the store that he looked like a cichlid. He told me that he wasn't! I wouldn't normally buy a fish I'm not familiar with but the guy seemed to know his stuff! Wow. I've got two of them and they've been chill for the last 2 weeks. In this tank I have two Angels, 6 giant Danios, 2 rope fish, 2 pearl Gauramis, 1 drawf golden gaurami, 1 rose bard, 2 cory cats and a handful of different tetras. These guys are only about 3 inches so far. From what I just looked up their gonna get to 8 inches. Will they eat all my other fish? Grrr...should have investigated more before purchasing. Thanks again for any info you're willing to share!

green severum if my id is correct

should be ok with the other fish

the fish above it is the purple flash cichlid

definitely some kind of cichlid. the body type looks very sererum-like, but the color not so much; could be its a hybrid of two or more species, maybe?

Kinda looks like that but my phone takes really bad pics. It's actually just a lil rosey barb! :D Thanks for the info though, I am happy to know I don't need to give them back to the pet store. Just getting my tank back in order. The reason for all the new fish is that I bought 10 feeder fish off my local pet store for my rope fish and they invested my whole tank with ick. Normally I could handle that but pretty much every fish died within 3 days except my precious rope fish. Learned another lesson that day!

Good question. Up until now I've never dealt with cichlids. Always stayed away as I don't want them eating all my other lil guys! lol Am doing research right now just to make sure all is ok. Thanks for the input!

you know what, I take it back- it looks A LOT like a young convict cichlid to me. body type matches, but especially the pattern of it. if that's the case- not really a community fish, and definitely not a peaceful one.
