I don't have a green thumb... please help.

Also everyone is saying that hob filters and co2 is a bad idea.. Well not sure exactly what the problem is, I am running hob on both of my tanks and there is sufficient amount of co2 in the water for the plants to indulge on..

Sorry, yeah, you can use co2 with an HOB, but if you can choose, choose a cannister.

For the original poster, you won't need two filters on the 20, so use only the fluval cannister.

I wasn't planning on putting two filters because I know that is total overkill for a 10 or 20 gallon tank... I was just naming the two that I already have to see if they were usable for a planted tank or would I need to get something else.

Again based on what I've read... they say HOB filters aren't good because the agitation of the water dissolves the co2 or something like that. I could be totally wrong.

If I opt NOT to use my cannister filter (want to keep it with my 55 gallon tank), would a basic HOB or very cheap cannister filter work? What is a low price but decent quality cannister filter? All I know if Fluval and they aren't cheap.

With a 10 gallon tank... is co2 really necessary, or would the fish produce enough for the plants?
