I have a pearl danio which is about a year old. I have just noticed a very recent development on both of the pectoral fins where they meet the body. There is a slight swelling of the area just above each fin with quite a large white ball stuck to it. It looks too large for Ich and it seems strange that it looks exactly the same on each side.
I read the 'sticky' about diseases and found the one about goldfish. It said that goldfish have a similar thing happening when they get to be mating age, which is normal. Is this true of danios?
The fish seems to be perfectly healthy, its eating well and is active, same as normal. I don't want to start treating it for a disease if its actually not sick. :shake:
Does anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible to take a picture? Is the "ball" seeming to sit above the surface of the skin, or is it more embedded?

What size tank is he in, what are your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, ph, and temperature readings? When did you notice the problem?

Its on the same place on both sides?

Does it look fuzzy or smooth?

Just trying to get some more info:)

The 'ball' just seems to be sitting there above the fin. Its not fuzzy at all, its very smooth and bright white, not grey or yellow.

The danio has always been in the same tank, which is 60 litres. I had just finished doing a general clean up of the tank, cleaning the gravel, filter, etc when I noticed these white 'balls'. I hadn't noticed them before today. I fed the fish earlier today and I'm sure I would have noticed it then, because I have a habit of counting them all as they come up to feed. This seems to have appeared suddenly.

Well its at least 24 hours later and the condition is the same. There are no more white spots on the danio, just the 2 on the pectoral fins. The white 'balls' seem to be unchanged.

The danio seems to be quite happy and behaving normally. If it was ich would there be other symptoms by now?
