I feel like I need to start all over!

guppygal
you basically are now starting from scratch?

keep an eye on the parameters and be prepared to do water changes as needed.

what about the filter? did you do anything to the old filter?

you can add pimafix melafix..but if the water is clean I have found scales and fins will heal by themselves...as long as the water remains clean the fish should be able to heal up fine.

I guess I feel like I am starting from scratch - all my parameters are 0 (Ammonia/nitrite/nitrate).

As for filter - I rotated them, I put the 3 week old filter from the 5 g in the 10 and I put a new filter and the old gross filter from the 10g in the 5g. (Trying to keep the 10 as new and clean as possible but yet still have some bacteria)

Like you said, now that the water is clean, I am hoping to not use any meds. I just turned the heat up, slowly, to 82.

So, I now have 1 guppy in each tank and the blue guy in a container. I am thinking of putting the two mellow guppies in the 10 and putting the guy aggressor guppy in the 5.

if you have established filter they will work to your benfit..I cycled a 30 gallon with discus and another 30 with wild peruvian angles in average of 4-5 days.

I just took filter media from my healthy tanks. and squeezed bacteria from the filter material.

keep an eye on the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates ( i checked twice a per day till it was 0,0, 20+)

So I should hopefully see some Nitrates in 4-5 days??? Then my water will be cycled, Yes?

when ammonia is 0 , nitrites 0 and nitrates are rising you wil have started the established cycle..it will still be fragile for a couple weeks.

if you add fish(after the cycle) just add a guppy or two and wait so the cycle can catch up.also for the guppy aggression issue I wonder if having more guppies will help distribute some of the aggression.

a long time ago I use to raise guppies..I had three tanks for them. but they were used to spread the guppies out since the bred like rabbits.. :thud:

I never removed the babies from the tanks..i just added this floating grass matt so the babies could hide in it. I fed them all crushed flakes..nothing fancy in no time I had so many guppies that I removed the grass mats.

I eventually gave them all away.

Well all the gupps are still alive and regenerating scales - they still have some missing, the blue guy in the 5 gal is still the worse.

Ammonia/Nitrite are 0 and there IS a slight color change in the Nitrates ... not quite 5 yet maybe at a 1 or 2!

Here is an old question .... I want to keep the tank clean because of the guppies missing scales but I am afraid I will mess up my nitrAtes (cycle) ... I want them to build.

Can I change water without worry of affecting Nitrates? Probably not ...
