I was at petco today putting my JD up for adoption and was browsing around their assorted africans, when i saw them, floating in a bag waiting to be added to the tank, 2 beautiful snow white socolofi! however, i wasn't able to pick them up today because i didn't have time to go home and add them to my tank, :mad2:, but hopefully i can pick them up tomorrow and post pics just to make sure that i'm accurate about them being socolofi because i still have trouble telling the difference between them and albino red-finned zebras. but since that is where i first go the snow white socolofi that i have in my tank currently, chances are that those fish were indeed socolofi! :headbang2: just thought i'd share the good news! :perv: however, they were REALLY small compared to my socolofi, so i'll have to raise them in a breeder net for a while right?

i have the old 10gal up and running from when the JD was in it, but it has become a guppy breeding tank. could the small fish live in peace until the socolofi are big enough to be added to my 75gal?

The socolofi will probably bully them to death. Best not to do it. Makes an excuse though of buying another tank. A 5g for temporary housing if space is an issue should be fine. Barebottom, a couple of PVC pipes and sponge filter are all you need.

well i haven't added the guppies to the 10gal yet. i'll keep the socolofi in their for how long until they are alright to put in my 75gal? the guppies are currently in the 75gal creating non-stop food for my cichlids. i can keep them in their a little longer. they are left alone for the most part and i'm not worried about them getting bullied at all.

so ya. . . how long should the socolofi be kept in the 10gal?

[store edited] Is a rip-off from where I'm from in NY, along with a disease-pit. Most of their employees don't know anything. They are kept in deplorable conditions. Africans there are like 9$ for a juvenile that might actually be a hybrid mutt. I have this excellent LFS by me that sells purebred socolofi for 3$ each, and they're a decent size, even though they bite :)
I would just search around the internet for a LFS that knows what they're doing by you and get it from there, even if you have to drive an extra 20 miles, it's worth it in the long-run; however, you seem to already have a nice socolofi you got from that petco, so I guess you should go for it if it's reasonably priced.

the problem is i live in an area where no one keeps fish. we have tons of lakes and people love to fish, but no one keeps fish. so there aren't any LFS in my area at all. :help: however, there are auctions that happen three times a year, and that is where i got my 3 labs from for only $9 and they are doing fine, but i can't wait that long for another auction. :angryfire: plus most of the fish i have gotten from that petco have done fine. i had a pleco for a long time before i returned it. i just took back a JD that i had for a while, and i also had a wonderful pleco, too. the only problem fish i have ever got was an Electric Blue Ahli that had been killed and buried in my gravel by my socolofi a while back. :eek3: so i trust the fish they have. i've just never kept them separate from my other fish. i mean this is the first i have ever heard of doing that since i've never had a problem before adding them straight to my tanks before. but now that my fish have gotten older and i've grown more attached to them i will probably separate them like instructed. :grinyes:
