Okay as the title says I bought a bigger tank. 125 gallons. I am going to use 2 HOB filters on it for the time being. I don't have the 2nd one yet but I have order it. If I move the filter I have (from a 55 gallon; which is cycled) and the gravel and decorations with the same fish load I should not have a problem should I?

I can't wait to get it all set up. :D

Thanks

I do not see a problem but not sure what you mean. Do you plan on keeping some of you old water??

I would (unless the 125 is going into the same place as the old 55) set up tank, fill 1/2 way with new water (with declorinator added), move gravel and rocks ect, then old water and fish to new.

If you are literally moving everything from your original tank over to the new one, you shouldn't have a problem provided you've dechlorinated the new water before adding it. If you transfer the gravel, filter, water, etc. over and then fill the rest with water that hasn't been treated, you're just going to kill off most of the bacteria and have to start the cycle all over again.

Yes I am moving everything from the old tank into the new one. I did not think I would have a problem but was not sure.

I have been told by friends that it wasn't and I actually did the same thing two weeks ago (10g -> 20g) and my ammonia level's been at 0ppm throughout the whole thing. I didn't transfer the same substrate, so my major source of bacteria was the old filter.

If you're doing the substrate too, I can't imagine you'd have a problem unless you accidentally kill off all your good bacteria.

No problems and since there is little to no benefit of the old water there is no real reason to move it over. But you can if it will make you sleep better at night. Just make sure to dechlorinate your new water and have fun.

It will be fine, but like everyone said just make sure that you dechlorinate the water before it touches your old gravel or filter!! I moved over a 35g and a 50g into a 180g along with gravel (*and still had to add about twice as much gravel), along with the 2 filters and the fish and everything was fine!!
