It was a buch of long green leafed plants (straight up, long as in 10 inches or less) that was in some gel stuff (i washed off the gel) and i placed them within the gravel of my freshwater aquarium (about 2 inches deep, but the bulbs were so numerous that it was hard to keep them all covered adequately). The plants' leaves have since been "dissolving" towards the end of the tips (going downward). They look clear and have been releasing these "frayed" little particles in the aquarium (which my fish like to engulf and immediately spit out). I ripped the tips off as much as I could, and a lof the plant still looks to be doing well.

i only have 2 very tiny minnows in my tank (a 7 gallon) and I was wondering if this could be caused by the lack of fish and therefore the lack of nutrients for the plants (fish feces)? Any tips? The temperature is around 70 or a bit lower, and I do have a light. I havent used fertilizer or any tabs or anything because everyone I know who has a fishtank told me it wasn't necessary. Plus, my fish were very sick and since they've been in this tank, they've been getting a lot better so I didn't want to add any chemicals or anything.

Thanks

You probably bought Mondo Grass, which isn't an aquatic plant. That's why it's rotting away.

really? i got it in the fish section of the store. i wish i knew the name of it. i have a fluorescent light, and I typically leave it on for most of the day (8 hours?).

the plant is getting sort of fuzzy it looks like. i mean, if it's really bad i can pull the plant out, but i feel bad letting it die.

thanks.

Most of the aquatic plants from Petco aren't actually aquatic, especially the ones that are sold in the tubes with gel.

wtf.. lol.. this is terrible. they're just releasing all these small little particles in my tank. i should probably just get rid of them, correct?

is it harmful if i leave them in overnight until tomorrow?

toss it. i went through a ton of those gel-tube plants when i was getting started.
