I guess adding too many gouramis in my 55 gallon was a bad idea

Just because your fish have had no problems doesn't mean that's everyday stuff,

Ain't that the truth. I have 2 gold gouramis and 2 paradise fish in my 55 and they get along fine. But, I probably wouldn't pair them up again like that, because I got lucky, I think. I had all 4 of them from the time they were about a half-inch and they grew up in a 20 gallon.

If you agree your wrong. I have 1 gold, 1 Neon Blue, 2 Flame Dwarfs, and 1 Opaline all males and not one problem. So you cant say you can never keep them all together because mine are 2 years old and still doing amazing.

Count your blessings, you got very lucky IMO. I had 2 m dwarfs that got along fine for quite a while..then one day they just tore into each other the result was the death of one.
