I had to put my tanks up for sale today :(

Sorry you have to give up some of your tanks, at least you'll have the one. It can be just a part of the ebb & flow of fish keeping. I had to give up all my active tanks for a couple years but things change & they will for you too. Don't be a stranger, Granny.

Sorry to hear that Granny. At least you've still got your feet in it. Times are tough all around. Keep buying those lottery tickets, maybe you'll hit the big one ! Stay in touch. I love Disney, too !

thank you all so much!! I have been shocked about the power bills as this time last year my power was 48.00 for all of summer and heading into fall. so far my bills have trippled, 159.00 was my latest bill and the electricity was 159.00 and its been this amount for 3 months now. and i do not have air conditioning ! we do not use the oven, and try to eat most things we can make in a sandwitch or microwave.
Our power company went thru some bad stuff, they cheated millions out of money, then filed bankrupcy, oh then the sold it to a company out of the usa  so now my 48.00 power bill is over 150.00 a month!
the winters here are harsh, I mean bitter cold and cold for many months. I am scared even thinking about whats coming . By October its already bitter cold. ( which is fine since we only get 2 trick or treaters and they got to be poretty hard up to go out side :grinyes:
I want you to know I did not post this for any one to feel sorry for me, really I am fine with it. But I am forseeing the winter time and I am preparing .
the company that bought our power company said they would not raise prices for one year, well after one year they went and trippled the amount we payed before. This stupid town allowed this, now we are all in for some bad times.
So even though I have to down size, I still am happy to have the 29 going.
Thank you Jinkz, for all your kindness, :)all of you rock in my book.
Oh and yes, I will be posting here often, heck I can not leave this place, this was my first home ! :)

hummmmmm Acually I never bought one before. I never wanted to spend that dollar :grinyes: maybe I shoud rethink getting one or two now

Might I suggest a wood burning slow combustion heater and solar panels on the roof. I don't think the energy situation is going to get much better in a hurry.

Getting a bit:topic:...these are great ideas/

I would love to put in a solar panel when and hopefully if I can get my own home. Problem is the setup costs are so high only the rich can afford them so far.

I wish!! Guess you all do not know me, or about me.since I have been here a while I will fill you in some.

7 1/2 years ago I was handed a baby,my grandson who was 6 weeks old. my sons wife was abusive, and stopped feeding the baby, Both got into drugs ...... scroll ahead long story, I spent savings and fought 3 years and finally adopted the baby who was diagnosed with Autism......scroll ahead...... yep, they got back together....... I got another baby......... scroll ahead...... there gone.... I have 2 baby boys, a girl, and went from single gram ma, to over night being a big family.
I moved into a big old home, owned by public housing and I can not have a wood stove, solar etc. But its big enough to hold my family, and we are happy. What I went thru Hell with my son and his wife ( now ex) . I had to pay for lawyers, they got them thru the state free :wall::wall: Finally both just up and disappeared, but not before cleaning me out. They have not come back for 4 years, ... they also have never paid child support.
my boy wanted a fish tank, he had to have one so thats when I came on here and found you all, and you all blessed me with your help and knowledge. We went bonkers with the tanks, he is Autistic and well if he found pleasure in the tanks, I got him what he wanted ! but I did upgrade things, spent lots on filters, lights etc.
he will be ok with one tank now, He will keep his 29 the original tank. Montana power supply hit the roof, it sucks so we adapt. :) being a single gramma, most of my time is with my kids. Life is good ! I never thought I would have more kids at my age  but there is a lot of gramma's taking up the slack where parents fail.
ok, I am now off to work, Have a good day all !! Stay cool. :)

Electric bills are skyrocketing for many of us and others may find the same solution you have. But, as an alternative, why not native fish that will only need water motion (filters), not the expensive to operate heaters and specialty lighting? NANFA.org would sure like a few new members and can provide guidance.

Just a thought.

Charlie

You're obviously a strong woman to have brought yourself and your family though much tougher times than you're facing into now. An old Irish saying "Go n'eiri an bothar leat" which means: May the road rise to meet you. Best of luck with everything....:)
