I hate Cardinal/Neon Tetras!

I've been pretty lucky with neons, I only had 2 die for unknown reasons, the remaining 12 are doing quite well going on six months now. I don't know the lifespan, but they seem to be healthy.

I avoided them for a while because I had heard they were so sensitive. finally took the plunge 3-4 weeks ago and picked up 6 neons and they actually seem to be doing quite well (all but 1 who didn't make it) as are the 3 cardinals I picked up the following week ( I actually like the colour on the cardinals better but they didn't have any when I was picking up the neons). I also admit that I climatized them over 5-6 hours with a drip system though...

From experience once they are acclimated they are very hardy. I have about 10-12 Cardinals and a few Neons (5??). They are over 3years old.

Ps--I would always do a water change before adding any fish.

All that I can do is reiterate what almost everyone else has said.

I LOVE THE LOOK OF A SCHOOL OF NEONS OR CARDINALS DARTING IN AND OUT OF THE GRASSY PLANTS & MOST PEOPLE DO,... but try as you might & try as anyone HERE might,...

...not all cases of neon & cardinal dead in a (what you would think ) is a perfectly good, tested & acclimated aquarium environment is going to be easily explained away by just HOBBYIST IGNORANCE or NEGLECT.

It's just a fact that I've seen compile over the years that they die & that many of them are in poor health when you get them.

SORRY!

the cardinals in my tank (and the rummies) have been going strong for a few months.

i bought like 5 cardinals the other day to add to my school of 2, the next day one died, and i watched my red claw crab dismember and consume the entire thing, it was awesome!

I often think about getting my old 29 out of the basement and firing it up for a school of neons, then I read things like this. :headshake2:

I got a school of 6 of them 3 days ago and they are all doing fine so far. *fingers crossed*

Give it a try first before you jump to conclusions. Just because it did not work for others, it doesn't mean you won't have luck either.
