I HATE HEATERS!!!!!!

Ok so I have to vent I am so pissed it is unreal. So I did a water change today for my yellow lab that was having babies. The water was a little cool so i turned on the heater. I told myself it was on and to check it after a little bit. Long story short I went to my friends house and totally forgot. i came home and went into the kitchen and there she was belly up and the water was 105 degrees. I can't believe they make a heater that has a cheap thermostat! I am so pissed!!!!!!!!!!!

yea sucks for sure but I have heard this same situtation more times then I can count. I dont have heater problems since I dont use them all my tanks are goldfish and they dont require heaters.

I have guppies mollies platies, cories, angelfish, Red Cherry Shrimp and Bettas in my 6 tanks and not one heater in any of them. I live in west texas so I never have needed them.

Always get good heaters - cheap ones kill fish all the time.

all well regarded as far as I can tell (personally, I use VisithermStealths except for the lone skinny glass bodied unit in my 20T (Tetra or Penn-Plax?))

Also - they're generally LOTS cheaper noline than at the LFS

I had a scare similar to that, but i noticed my fish acting strange and was able to correct the situation. Sorry to hear that about your fish.

I never change the setting on my heaters if I can help, plus I am always trying to notice whether they are running or not as well as feel the tanks for heat.

Its just like I tell people with there home thermostats (Im an hvac tech) set it and dont freeking touch it let it be. people are too touchy feely with that kind of stuff lol. Also now I know my calling make a digital thermostat tank heater no more guessing where the knob sits

just to let you in on a little secret i'm cheap and broke so my affordable is ridiculous right now. :silly:

Though this thread is old, if you dont like heaters get Uruguian cichlids they dont need them. They'll take temps from 50s-90s.
