I hate my light!!!!

PPMN

Who could resist this face??
I got an Eclypse 12 gal that came with the standard 13 W light. It has an ugly yellow cast to it. YUK! It's also not enough to sustain plant life. I've been using another full spectrum 26 W light in a clamp "hood" thingy in addition the the 13 W, but that looks ugly. I want to find a way to install a light with a prettier glow...like a blue spectrum light...so I can use the hood the tank came with. What can I do? I don't want to spend more than say around $20. (I'm poor right now:) )

You can get a replacement bulb for the Eclipse. Just get one that's the same length. If you don't want yellow color, go with a bulb that's rated 6-10,000 K. The higher the number, the whiter the light. Go even higher and it starts to get a blue cast.

If your LFS doesn't have the right bulbs, try ordering one online.

My 5-gallon mini bow came with a 15 watt incandescent (ewww) and has to have screw-in bulbs which seriously limited my options... thankfully, my Wal-Mart carried a screw-in 11-watt fluorescent that I was able to use for a low-light planted setup. My hygro, java ferns, and flame moss are all doing well enough. I even have a medium-light plant that's... urr... making a come-back... maybe... ^__^;;
