I hate shrimp!

ummm...nice day, isn't it...?

I'm drowning in the hypocrisy

Have you tried using the gravel vac attachment so the flow velocity is much lower?

Not a personal attack to the poster, but why would you want a bare bottomed shrimp tank? I read that and have tried to figure out the 'why' but am stumped.

absolutely ! put some trousers on that lil felller !

erm anyway, you could try putting some food in one corner of the tank so they would all go over there and you could clean the rest of the tank ?

Um, what?? Have I used a gravel vac complete with the tube attached to the hose? Is that what you're asking? Yes. Yes, I have.

In response, please review the thread where an answer has already been provided:

I keep a bare tank bottom right now and leaving a film of shrimp crap bothers me. Some time soon I hope to convert my shrimp tank into a Diana Walstad tank (complete with potting soil) and then I won't worry so much about leaving solid waste but now, with a bare tank bottom, I don't like leaving all it to just sit there and build up.

I use one of those reusable coffee filters and a larger hose I recycled from an old water siphon pump. I hold the filter in my hand and I believe brace the hose inside with my thumb so I can control both of those in one hand while in the other hand I can control the hose draining the water to my bucket.

I suck the water through the end running to the bucket to get it started. It does not take much effort and you want to be careful. You don't want that in your mouth I'm sure. This only works if the hose is running beneath the aquarium to a bucket. Then I just watch to make sure the coffee filter stays above water level so little shrimp can’t get in it.

This has been the best proven way I came up with to get the job done safely for shrimp and quicker than with a little air hose trickle. I was very frustrated with water changes on my shrimp colonies but they are so charming to keep and if you try this method I hope it works for you too.

In response to the bare bottom. I would suggest getting a bubble filter. They are very cheap and so is the filter media to fill it. This will help with the buildup on the bottom.

Thanks Pixie. I'll try it. By bubble filter, do you mean one that's powered by an air pump? I use one and also an hob.
