Alright, so I got a couple of snails from the LSF a few weeks ago and put them in with my puffer so he could have a nice lunch.

Now, a few weeks later, I have found out that these tiny little baby snails are crawling around my 7 gallon tank. They are very hard to see and a little bigger than a grain of salt. I dont want my puffer to eat them all at once and Id like to keep a few but im afraid if I put em in my other tank that the plecos will suck em up by accident. Id like to keep them until they are big enough to put into my 10 gallon so they can keepon breeding and ill have an unlimited supply of puffer fish food.....

Any ideas???

Do you think the puffer will eat them all? it doesnt even seem like he sees them right now...

Thx.

Oh those snails will multiply like crazy and you'll be sorry you got them. Don't worry about moving any out. I don't think plecos will eat the snails if you do decide to try. However, when my two snails, obtained by accident, became about 100, I brought home two loaches and that did the trick for my snail problem.
Good luck,
Mary.

The puffer should eat it's fill when hungry, and I am no snail expert, but I do believe that they multiply based on available food sources, I hope a snail expert can chime in on this and clarify. You might bump down the feeding of the fish in the tank as they might not be eating it all thus adding to your snail problem.

You will have a lot more snails in your tank if you are overfeeding. I do not think you're puffer will eat all of the snails at once. I would think he would stop eating when he is full. One way to get rid of your snails is to put a piece of lettuce in your tank at night and then pull it out in the morning. It should be covered in snails. You may find more information at this web site www.thepufferforum.com.

I'd ask this in the Brackish Water forum. That's where the puffer people are.

From what I've read, puffers will eat until they literally explode if they can.

I only put one snail at a time in mine's tank and it's gone in less 20 secs.

No way would I chance any more than that.
