I have Fry....question

I have fry...I had eggs...now I little babies...The LFS and internet searching says feed them baby brine shrimp... LFS has FROZEN Baby brine and said to put some of the tank water in a cup melt and ....you have baby brine...is this the same thing? I don't want dead babys from stavation. I have removed the other chicld parents (Jack dempseys) so I know they won't be eaten

They are swiming with my oscar in the 55 for a few weeks I guess

Live baby brine shrimp move about. Fozen don't. Cichlid babies instinctivly go for stuff that's moving about. So, they're more likely to recognise the live ones as actual food.

That said, I've never raised fry so I don't know if it's all that important or not, but if I were going to raise fry, I'd go with live.

i have little fry also i feed them powder food called first bites they seem to like it and are doing fine with it i tried to feed them frozen brine shrimp but it seemed to big for them to bite this powder food is just the right size

I feed mine both live BBS and First bites. They are doing just fine. I don't think there is any reason to worry.

On the subject of brine shrimp, I just bought some frozen for my fish (adults not babies) and the pet store told me that if I put live brine in a freshwater tank they would instantly die, so they sold me this frozen crap. You mean I could of used the live ones just fine and they would swim around the tank to get eaten?

I have a food "issue" in my tank where the danios wont let any of my tetras get any food so I thought if the brine could swim away fast enough the tetras would at least get a nibble of the treat. Someone help me out here, can you pour live bring shrimp into a freshwater tank?

i read when i was researching brine shrimp that they can live up to an hour in freshwater. i think thats plenty oof time for your fish to have at it.

I noticed when I kept cichlid parrents in the tank w/ the babeis, they would chew up and spit out flake for the kids to eat. That was pretty neat to watch. If you want you can just crush up flakes as small as you can get them and the'll eat that.

I use a mix of powered flake and brine shrimp. To crush the flakes out them in a Zip Lock, and smash away. Turn it into a power. I use frozen brine shrimp. Take a glass of tank water and drop a cube of shrimp into it. In a few minutes it should melt, and just pour that into the tank. Feed 3x a day, with lots of water changes.

Yes, you can feed live baby brine shrimp in a freshwater tank.

The first thing baby fish will eat is infusoria...which are very tiny microscopic critters. If you have a planted tank there are probably plenty of infusoria in your tank to take care of the fry for a week or so, before you need to feed them anything else. At the first free swimming faze they're most likely too small for bbs anyway. You can get infusoria by soaking a lettuce leaf in a bowl of water. Sit it in the sun for a few days and the water will become cloudy. That cloudyness is the infusoria, you can tell by holding a flashlight to one side of the bowl...the infusoria will move to the brightest source of light. Syphon out the cloud and put it in with the fry if you aren't sure there is enough in the tank for them.

That explains a lot. I seperated 12 guppy fry into a 2 gallon tank until they got big enough to not get eaten by the parents in my 10 gallon planted. I obviously missed one of them and she survived without getting eaten and grew WAY faster than the seperated fry. I wasn't feeding anything other than normal flake food for the adults. The seperated fry got First Bites and crushed spirulina flakes. This time when the mother dropped, i just left them all in the tank with the parents and i've still got plenty that are alive and well.
