I have no Idea what the temp is

I have three different types of thermometers. digital with probe, digital self contained and glass stick on. I first got a digital bc the glass was reading 90 when there was no way the water was 90. But I'm thinking the digital with probe is way off too. I also have a digital without a probe and when I switched thermometers the new one reads 4°+ what the other one read.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the most accurate thermometer?

I use 2 thermometers in each tank. One up on top nearest the heaters (mine heaters run along the botto of the tank) and other on the bottom furthest from the heater.

The difference is a swing of 3 degrees. I've seen as much as 7 before!

Also, the sun light can really alter the readings as well as the light fixtures.

i use glass stickons with dead nuts accuracy (based on the external thermostat i have with my titanium heater)

you could just pick up another glass one and see what that reads.

get a glass one with mercury.
its oldschool but very accurate.

i always get nervous about somebody breaking the glass ones though, so i have one of those little in-the-tank breeder boxes and i put the thermometer in that for an hour or two so it still gets the right temp but nobody tries to fight with the thermometer.

You have one of those titanium heaters with the external thermostat? I have one of those in my discus tank. Is the temp you set it to what your thermometer reads?
Thats kind of what I'm trying to figure out.
I have to set it to 90° to get the thermometer to read 88.
But the other digital one reads 92°

yep.

i keep my amazon tank at a steady 78 degrees, and it matches on both the thermometer and the heater controller thermostat.

I want 88° and to get 88 on my thermometer the heater had to go up to 90.
The reason for keeping such a high temp is the discus are new and I have recently found a sick fish in that tank, so I'm trying to keep the fishs metabolism up.

I think you will always find varying recommendations on discus temp.

Most breeders are recommending 84-86 right now.
