I just brought home a new betta a few hours ago, and it hasn’t gone to the surface of the tank at all. When it rests near the bottom, its tail floats higher than the rest of its body.

I’m also wondering why my corydoras start swimming very frantically whenever I turn the tank lights on. Any insight would be appreciated.

What is the temperature of the water?

As for the lights and the corys...

Totally normal, how do you act if you're woken unexpectedly?

You could get a light that ramps up and down if you're worried they will jump out.
