To provide some oxygen for the fish. I have a 29 gallon aquarium, and the air pump is for 20-60 gallon aquariums. I got a 14 inch air stone with it, and after turning it on, I found that it was a lot more power than I expected. It creates a rather strong current, one that I think might be rather strong for my fish. They have a rather hard time moving against it. Is this really a problem? I would imagine it can't be good, should I get a smaller air stone or something to that effect?

I have a 29 with a twelve inch tube try purchasing a gang plank if you would like to limit the current they are fairly inexpensive and then you can limit the amount of air that is being pushed through and you can also split the air to say one of those retro treasure chests....

I like the wands/sticks......We used to have a 12'' stick behind some of our taller plants when we had the tank back in VA....I liked the effect it gave.

If your air pump dosen't have adjustable valve to control the air flow, you could buy a valve so as you could cut the flow down. Thats if you like the effect the bubbles make, this will slow the current down too.

I've had community tank's for year's now!!

As we'll as providing and circulating oxygen, my "Community", love trying to swim through it!! This goes from My little Neon Tetra's (26 of them), who get washed away...lol...to my biggest in they're (Moonlight & Opaline Gouramies as we'll as a few Lace!). I also have 6 Pana Cory, 3 Albino, 2Ram's & a Mulipunctas (Baby.he will be they're till he get a little larger!!!)

If you check the size for your tank, and it's not adjustable, get a lower output pump, but, if it is, restrict it to either one side or as a bubble wall or curtain at the back of your tank!

I agree, that if your not overstocked, the filter should provide enough surface agitation to oxygenate the water. I've got an 18 inch bubble bar in the back of my tank for decoration but mainly because my Pleco loves it. I moved him from a 55 to the 125 and set it up just for him. He's always going up and down in the bubbles and sometimes he lays on the bar for hours...I think he likes how it feels on his skin. It' doesn't hurt that it is roiling the surface and providing oxygen either.
