The salmon fishery is different everywhere you go. Some places there are many many fish but the price is low because there are so many. As for cleaning thats what the huge cannerys and processing plants are for.
Then there are the places where there are far fewer fish so the price is much higher. I was in the one where there are more fish lower price.
The fishing we did we never went down into the tanks. Us fisherman have smaller fish holds and we load our fish into bags. Oh yea our boats are smaller only 32 feet long. When fishing time is over we go to the tenders, which are bigger ships and crab boats like on deadliest catch, I actually saw the Maverick and the Cornelia Marie. Beautiful boats. So yea these ships have cranes and they lift out our bags of fish, weigh them and put them into there big tanks full of water that they change every so often to keep the fish fresh. When all the fish are delivered they go to the cannery where a giant vacuum is used to suck out all the fish.
And the long hours are hard but made a little easier because they are spread out you get between 6-9 hours of fishing then a 3-6 hour break than another 6-9 hour fishing period. But the long hours are made not so bad because you only work 3-4 weeks then you have until next year to recover.
So thanks for the support and keep eating wild Alaska salmon!!! Ohh my mouth is watering
