I was giving my tank a thorough cleaning and I accidently broke the thermometer, the kind with suction cups that sticks to the inside of the glass. It has that red looking juice with little ball bearing looking things in it. I cleaned it up, but will this hurt my fish? Thanks in advance for any input.

that red "looking juice" is just alcohol and only a miniscule amount at that. i'd not worry about it.

Ok, thankx. Will the alcohol float to the top? Will prime help it? Maybe the filter will suction it out. I feel stupid right now.

I dont like those kinds... I like the ones the stick to the outside of your tank.. or a ditgatal one

none of the above. alcohol is water soluble. don't feel "stupid" ... you're certainly not the first one who's broken one of those thermometers and you sure won't be the last. best thing you can do is stop worrying about it. the amount of alcohol you've put into the tank is like a single grain of sand on a beach.

Thanx Liv2padl. I feel better now. I just dont want my fish to suffer because I did something dumb. I moved a big rock that my loaches hide under and bumped the thermometer, and crash it went. Ive been watching and all the fish look fine.

If you're really worried, you could do a partial water change and dilute whatever is left in the tank.

I've done this exact same thing a few times. I've even had fish pass the little black beads through their system without any side-effects. So long as you cleaned it up good, there isn't anything particularily harmful inside them so you should be fine.

If all the fish swim from side to side you know then they are drunk :-)
