I have a pretty large bio-load in a 55 gal tank: 4 goldfish and 3 apple snails(and some cories that I'm holding for a friend for a couple more weeks). A lot, I know.

Anyway, I'm going to buy a canister filter(probably online) and I want to know opinions on which are best for less money. I want to get a filter rated for at least 125 gal cuz my fish are poop machines! I can't spend $300 on an Eheim even though I know they're *SO* great. :headshake2: I'm just mad I can't afford one. I don't even really want to spend $100, but that's a lot more reasonable for me.

The cheapest one I found on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...s=I%2BC&itu=UA%2BIA%2BUCI&otn=39&po=LVI&ps=54

i have the penn plaxx casdacde. I find it to be ok, not the best i have ever used. i would rather have something better. My biggest issue with the penn plax i found is that you have to keep it completely clean all the time, otherwise the thing doens't flow worth crap, also the hose kinks up easily, to the point where I had to go get wire loam and cover the hose in that. I only have the 500, so that might be the issue.

I have a h.o.t mangnum and i love that thing! it's the best filter i own!! ALso have the emperior 400, which i bow before for excellence!

I also have the Cascade and I like mine. (It's in a 35 gallon, so that's a little different.) I know that they make one for larger tanks. Upkeep with goldfish for this filter can be difficult, but as long as it is kept relatively clear, it provides good water quality inexpensively. My tanks are goldfish as well, and with the Penn Plax, the water is clear and the parameters are excellent.

I bought 2 of these and I have been real impressed so impressed I'm buying 2 more. SUN SUN Canister Filter

SUN SUN makes a lot of the parts for marineland if not the whole canister filter for them. They also make the parts for a couple of other filter makers.

Here is my review of the filter SUN SUN Filter Review. Also HBH filter floss comes in a long sheet and makes a killer replacement filter pad. All you have to do and it is easier before you put the canister together is take one of the trays and make a template so you can cut the HBH filter floss out later when you need to replace yours.

Probably is made by the same company I know SUN SUN makes stuff and others put their name on it or have SUN SUN make it for them.

The EFU-35 is the ones I have the 3 basket version So still $50 less to buy and that includes shipping. Plus the UV on the Sun SUN is stronger good if you get a ich or green water break out other than that I have yet to do anything but test the UV.
