I need help choosing a dog breed!

i've had a pug. they bark, make other gross noises, get gas, shed all over (and their fur is heavy so it's hard to vacuum up completely), and their anal glands can get compacted (impacted?) and need to be expressed manually (aka you have to put on some gloves and squeeze a gland in their butt to get all the build-up out of it, or you need to pay someone else to do it). they are also temperature sensitive and prone to eye and breathing problems.

that's good for you, but probably not for the neighbors. a dog that barks out of frustration or boredom will simply find other ways of releasing that frustration, including chewing and destroying things in the house.

Their dogs were NEVER inside the house, so nothing got destroyed. The dogs had already dug and chewed everything up in the backyard, so there is no additional damage this device could do. Besides, one needs to sleep.

i think its wrong that you employ such a device. those dogs are not yours to control, and if you have an issue with it, take it up with the neighbors. i would NOT be happy if i was your neighbor and i found you using such a device on my animals.

I did try talking to the neighbors. They did nothing about it. THey partied until 4 or 5am and did not care if their dogs were outside barking all night stopping others from sleeping. They got plenty of tickets for disturbing the peace. Just because someone owns dogs does not mean they have the right to let the dogs bark constantly and disturb others. This is an irresponsible pet owner.

The dogs did not seem bothered by this device. If anything, they seemed calmed for once.

I also checked with a local veternarian about this device. There are not any negative behavorial affects from it and is recommended by veternarians.

Neither of this mattered 3 months later the dogs when to the pound when the owners got busted for growing illegal drugs in their back yards.

yeah, i was just explaining that so the OP doesn't think she can just plug one of those things in and have a perfect quiet dog.

People, people!
We are trying to get Malorie to acknowledge that dogs are a HUGE commitment. All dogs are great, each breed has its pros and cons. I know that at least abi88 and I are reiterating to Malorie that owning a dog is not just a walk in the park, literately!

Just to make another point here, Border Collies rule over all other dogs!

No Malorie, do not get a border collie, she/he will rip apart your apartment!

THANK YOU!!! Yes...I didnt suggest any breeds because I NEVER offer anyone my pet/animal advice before knowing their previous experiences!!:)

I am assuming that Malorie doesn't have much--or there is something that she isn't wanting to share with everyone as to why none of our important questions have been answered!

(I have also just found out that she says that she is only 10.....so guys I remember being 10-as I am 20 now-but do know that I had NO IDEA how much my mom did with her dog until I got mine! I was 9 when I got him....but I was also home-schooled and so was with him the whole time!:) But guys.....we do just need to be remembering who and what age we are talking to--be nice-and also remember the age!) :D

that lil pug photo you posted looks soo cute! i don't really care if the dog snores and snorts, i just want a companion.

What do you think of these pics?

Malorie, just make sure your parents are aware of the responsibilities a dog will bring before you get one. I understand it will be 'your' dog, and hopefully you will assist in feeding, walking, taking care of it, etc. But obviously, your parents will be the ones who will have to pay for its care, and who will have to deal with the consequences when the dog has an accident on the new carpet or chews a pair of shoes. I understand how cute ALL puppies are. But I know of many families who got a cute puppy 'for the kids', only to give it away to a shelter within a few months because it would be left home all day while the parents were at work and the kids at school, and would end up destroying the house. And once the dog goes to a shelter, who knows what will become of it....if it will live in a tiny cage for years waiting to be adopted, or be put down. Just think about what would happen if your parents decided they weren't prepared for the responsibilities of a dog, so make sure they know what they are getting into.

If your parents are experienced with dogs and have a good idea of the responsibilities involved, then great, a well-cared for and trained dog can be an excellent companion. However, if you don't think they know or care much about dogs but will get one for you because you want one, then please think about the welfare of the dog and that ultimately, the responsibilities in this case will be on your parents.
