I did mean any dwarf cichlid with cories. It is variable, and the strategy above of adding the cichlids last would be best. Borelli are really rather peaceful, and so are M. altispinosa.
$20.00 - $30.00 per fish. If you can find them cheaper get them. The cost is the other reason to add apistos last. If there's a problem with your tank conditions you'll find out before you shell out the big bucks.
20 to 30 bucks, are you kidding? I got my borelli's for $6 apiece at an LFS that is generally very pricey (though also high quality). Though the saga continues as to trying to figure out if they are both males or not.
Hey guys, I'm no world traveler. I was just saying what I've seen here in Columbus. We have two great fish stores (only ones I've seen with apitos) and both sell thier apistos, regardless of species, for 20.00 - 30.00 each. Someone back me up here.
im so getting a. cacatuoides!! i checked with my slp and he sells them to me for 7$ a piece !!!of course this is because ive been with him for awhile so he sells them to me at his supplierrs price isnt that awesome?!?there are slightly more expenive variants like double red ,orange and gold/red .my second choice is a.aggasizzi whick also has a very colorful double red variant. what would happen if i only bought a male ?i dont want them to breed but a couple would be so much better. is there a way to stop them from breeding?or mayybe i sould just let them breed and let them eat the fry?i really hve my heart set on some but i dont know what i can do. :sad :sad :sad
From, what I've heard and experienced if you are keeping your apistos in a community setting then most and probably all of the spawn will be eaten by other fish. Maybe you could find a vet to tie the females tubes. He would have to special order some realy tiny instruments. Seriously though, even if you don't want to care for babies, you will really enjoy the spawning behavior of these fish. It is what hooked me on them to begin with. If you really don't want to deal with fry the absence of a suitable cave will force the female to lay out in the open and will probably result in eggs getting eaten before they hatch.
This is a strange situation, usually the question is "How can I get these guys to breed?"
