I just went to the pet store to get some used filter media and i got some as you can see and i was wondering where i should put it? The media is too big to fit in my aquaclear 50 so should i just cut it up and put some in there or should i just lay it on the bottom of the tank?
Here are some pics:

Then if this works then tomorrow i will do a water test and a water change and go get my German Blue Rams at the pet store. I saw them today and they are holding them for me cant wait! :grinyes:

You are seeding the tank with bacteria I assume to avoid "new tank syndrome". You are going to want to stuff that in the aquaclear with the regular filter for a while. Just as long as water is passing through it so that it can seed bacteria throughout the tank. You can cut it, it doesn't matter. You could just drop it in the tank but it may take a bit longer to get a healthy colony on the new cartridge filter if speed is what you are interested in.

Alright thanks for quick reply :grinyes:

so the tank should be ready by tomorrow?

I know you don't want to hear this, but probably not. I did the same thing you are doing 4 weeks ago in a 55 gallon tank and I'm still cycling (will be ready any day now!) If you want to speed it up raise the temp to 82-84 degrees, this might shave a week off.

You know what, I'm going to say possibly if you got a nice big funky piece of filter media and your stocking is light. I might check though w/ a fish that's less sensitive than your rams.

My 55 took less than a week w/ used filter media but I've had smaller tanks that didn't take any time at all.

you technically don't need the used media..just the bacteria in it.
you can cut the sheets to fit .
I usually just squeeze stuff from my sponges into the new filter.

it looks like filter mats. just cut them to fin in layers in the filter..use the sponge and the bio media from the ac.

how long has that media been sitting..?
