My girlfiend wants a dwarf green spotted puffer fish and she doesnt have room to take care of it. I wanted to surprise her with a tank and fish that i would take care of at my place. I know nothing about puffers and what not or the best way to take care of them but i figured this could be something i can do down the road.

This is where i found the fishy and is the type my gf likes.

that type of fish is a brackish fish not a freshwater fish, so the work you will have to do is pretty tough! the 2 fish, that I am aware of, that are FRESHWATER are:

1- dwarf puffer/pea puffer
2- bee puffer- amazon puffer

they are pretty low maintence, they are aggressive to some things (although my dwarfs are only aggressive to snails!! the bee puffers are aggressive to most other fish)
Keep the puffers ONLY WITH PUFFERS and in groups of atleast 2-4 best in about a 20g tank (although the higher the sz the better they feel) lots of places to hide- plants structures
they love bloodworms and live brine shrimp, also they need pond snails, or tiny ramshorn snails to shave their teeth down every so often ( the bee puffers need them about once a week)

I think the lowest maintience is the dwarf puffer/pea puffer
good luck!

BTW I love your betta pic!

^That's only for Dwarf Puffers.

What you have pictured there is a Green Spotted Puffer that needs to be alone in a tank of at least 30 gallons. They are also brackish.

So, the question I guess is:

Which type of fish are you looking at? A GSP or DP?

Chazsgirl is right on with her assessment of DPs, although I think you can go smaller in tank size. Just be sure their is plenty of plants and caves.
