I need some harsh but honest advice.

I have to decided to see if I can find anyone in the family who will take them...I only speak to my step-family, that being the reason I haven't done it already.
My step-dad probably has a fish fanatic to take them.
The way I see it, is I at least have a few days to play with [params are good] - I know the tank is too small even at their size, but they've only spent 9 days in there so far...I see it as more of a stepping stone.

Best of luck Shoebox. It's tough that you can't keep them, but you're doing the right thing, rather than ignoring our advice and keeping them in that tiny tank anyway! Which is what a lot of people new to goldfish do. They will have a better home and hopefully you can even visit them.
