I need some help. Again. ph....

The pH/kH/CO2 chart is based on the assumption that the ONLY buffers in the system are bicarbonate based and that the ONLY thing lowering pH is CO2. If you have driftwood or peat in the aquarium it will add acids that lower the pH. Also some substrates will lower the pH. Some people add pH lowering chemicals thinking that adding them will add CO2.

I know that the water in my planted tank has a lower ph than my other one. This is because of my driftwood and perhaps my flourite substrate, and my ph came down from almost 8 to 7.2 before I started my co2. So if I understand you any ph reading I get from my tank cannot be used with the co2 chart, correct? Can I use the ph reading of my tap water, since it is the water I put into my tank, for the co2 calculation?

Maybe.

If the kH is the same you can. Or you can test the aquarium water after you have stopped CO2 for 24 hours and aerated the tank. Then shoot for a 1° drop from there. Or get a drop checker. That would be the best solution.

BTW, Excel can cause low O2 levels in some cases. If the plants don't use it all bacteria can eat it up and lower the O2 levels.

First of all no one answered clear enough for me to take anything as a matter of fact. seeing of all seeing my fish suffer is frustrating
I do appreciate facts and thank you for them, but if you feel like you have to be a jerk off then don't bother.
I'm just looking for an answer and if it takes me wording my problem different a few times to get different answers than so be it.
Thank you rex, fresh, Squawkbert and livingword.

Every bit of advice you were given was correct and accurate. You choose not to believe this advice because it's not what you wanted to hear. Now you have gone to another forum and asked the same question. You will get the same answers.

You got the same answer from several people. Even phrased differently. But it's you who chose not to believe the answers.

Have fun.

was it really necessary? he felt it was proper to confront you, in whatever manner he may have, in PRIVATE. you, on the other hand, felt it was necessary to publicize the conversation that he had the tact to keep private. uncalled for.

rex, youre a smart guy, and i love the work you have done with your site. i often rely on it on a daily basis for little bits of info. but c'mon. there was no reason to do that.

Everyone take a deep breath and relax. A person can post on as many forums as they like and ask the same question at all. Nothing wrong with that.

If you feel someone isn't responding to the information you have provided, then just move on and chaulk up the experience. It doesn't do any good to drag personal issues and PM's into the forums.

Thank you all for your cooperation! :)
