The only kind of suckermouth catfish I'd recommend for a 10g would be a couple otos (they prefer to be in groups). Clowns, rubberlips and bristlenoses get too large for a 10g IMO - my BN is getting big (~4") and agressive, I can't imagine keeping him in a small tank and he's not full grown yet.
I think a few (4-6) small tetras like glowlights or neons or a few small rasboras would work well with a centrepiece fish like a dwarf gourami or betta. You might even be able to add a trio of panda corys (they stay small, ~1.5") but then you'd be stocked to the brim
