is this normal - i mean i know it's good nothing ever gets on my glass i mean i have a pleco 3 ottos and a blue snail but the only place i ever see algae is on some of my fake plants a brown algae starts to form but my ottos keep it in check !!! opinions???

One of my 20G tanks is the same way. I never have to clean the glass, and I don't have any "algae eaters" in that tank. I do have a bunch of java moss in there, and I assume it it sucking up the nutrients before algae can even take hold (either that or we both have abnormal tanks ;) )

how long have the tanks in question been set up?

the other factor is the things you add to the tank, the more times you add plants, airborn spores over time all add up to the possibility of having different algea ariving in your tanks.

now whether that algae gets a good start is dependant on your water, care of the tank, and how the plants if any are doing

tanks been goin

for 6 mos - i never see a spot of it i got live plants that come n go (not enought lighting) some tough it out for about 3 mos - but i've since learned about low light plants so i'm slowly adding these to my tank - don't get me wrong i'm pumped about having no algae but i guess i must be doin something right! lol
i hear about people scraping the stuff off their glass with metal scrapers n stuff just seems extreme!
just curious if anyone else has this nice situation?

i got a 20 gal q tank

that never gets any either all plastic plants in that one - once in a while i get a little yellowish greens tuff but no enought to complain bout!!!

your tank is still young... I am not going to say you are going to have algae but IME new tanks like that tend not to have much in the way of algae especially with low light like you have

i posted about this a whilea go my stupid tank loooks as if i just set it up yesterday, and its been up since for 6 months! all i have is a lil pleco, CAE and a baby otto, and i have no idea how they are still living, there isnt even any algea at places they cant clean, like behind the thermo, is there a way to GET algea to grow???

Throw a slice of cucumber in there, or a leaf of romaine lettuce.
Anchor it down with a lead weight. Just replace with fresh stuff every other day.
