To have one, do I seriously have to keep it alone? Could it be the lone bottom dweller in my 110 I plan on having some cichlids, rams, and fast swimming schools in?

We had one and loved it. Do some research on their diet. Ours was eating snails. Not what we wanted it to do. Wife would hand feed it. I could tell when she was feeding it 'cause I would hear her scream. Pinchers, you know.

I had one, you have to be careful with water quality, they are very sensitive when they molt.

If they can catch it, they will eat it. You have to also have a pretty good lid as they will climb out and walk half way across your house.

I once dated a guy who had a big blue crayfish, and it did that all the time. He'd find it in the oddest places. It's a wonder the thing didn't die.

I have a crayfish I just caught in a stream, and at first it would try to get out, but once I gave it plenty of hiding spots and fed it enough, it seems to be pretty fine. I don't have a lid on my 55g, and I had 3 in there at one point. Not a single one got out. The best hiding spot I have for mine is the corner of a cinder block that is buried in sand so it can dig its way under. It really likes it there. As for fish, I only lost tiger barbs when I had it in a 30g with them. Right now I have a JD, male convict, 5 bleeding heart tetras, 2 plecos, and 2 striped raphael cats in my 55, and the crayfish never really seems to go after them. Maybe blue crayfish will act differently, who knows. I have lots of plants in my tank as well, so the fish could avoid the crayfish pretty easily.

I had a customer in the store one night tell me about her crayfish she had for several years. She said it was all the time crawling out of the tank and she'd find it and put it back in. She said one time her Mother-in-law was visiting and slept in the room the crayfish tank was in and woke up in the morning and opened her eyes and let out a blood curdling scream. She had slept on her back and when she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was the crayfish sitting on her chest looking at her. :22_yikes::rofl:

I think I'll look into doing a species tank at some point, so I can have a blue guy. We're going to turn our office into our fish room for smaller tanks, like my fry tank, and once I move the puffer into the 28, I plan on that being a shrimp tank and I want to get a 20g to use as a fry tank, then I can use the other 10 as a snail tank. And FINALLY, I have DH on board with all this! I convinced him that having some breeding tanks is a good thing because excess babies are free fish food. It's always about the economics with him. Whatever works!!! :grinyes:

I don't mind arthropods, and that would scare the living CRUD out of me! I'm shocked she didn't feel it crawling up onto her while she was asleep.... I wake up at the slightest touch.
