I still can't decide on filter

I would go for the eheim 2217. You can always add powerheads for extra circulation if you need it. The eheim will last you a long time. I have heard negatives on the 404. If anything I would wait for a fluval 405. They are brand new and supposedly better. I still would go for the eheim though, lots of customizing in the canister and a huge reservoir.

I saw some 305's and 405's at PetSmart. I don't care much for their pricing though.

I got my 304 for less than $80 at Drs Foster and Smith where PetCo had it for literally twice the price. Definiately look online for a better deal.

I vote for the XP3, but I use one on my 75 and I'm biased.

I got mine for $104 at Petsmart when I brought in the online add. They wanted 179.99 for it in the store.

if the 404 is still on sale pick it up the new series is out so they are clearing out the older ones. I just got a 204 for $55 for my 20 gallon.

I need to order it today for a 75 gal because I'll get double VIP points from Bigalsonline. I do not know what is more important. Most of them give you an up to gallon size on them and some of them give a GPH on them. Which is more important?
For example:
Eheim 2217 is up to 160 gal but only 264 GPH
Fluval 404 is up to 100 Gal. but 340 GPH
XP3 up to 175 gal and does not say GPH
Go Figure?
Which is the best for my money? There is no more than a $20 difference.

personally if i am spending that kind of money on a canister, i would pay a little extra and get the lifegard modular system. It's a lot easier to maintain and more efficient than a canister. The fluidized bed filter module alone is worth it...

I am very grateful for everyone's advice. I went with the Cascade 1500. It was a toss-up with the XP3. I'm not really sure why, I just felt good about the Cascade. Like the XP3, it has 350 GPH and up to a 200 gal tank. I hope its user friendly or I'm in trouble. Gagaliya, I'm not familar with the lifeguard modular system. This is the first I've heard of it. (That's not saying much). I'll check into it. I may get another tank one of these days and need another filtering system. Thanks again for everyones' help.
