I think I've finally decided

I've been debating for a while now what to put in a cycled 20 gallon. I think I've decided. How does this sound?

8 Cardinal Tetras
4 Platies
1 Dwarf Gourami
1 Blue Ram

Is this too much? Can I add more? If so, what?

you should pick either the ram or the DG and then add some more to the cardinal school

You would most likely be ok with that setup. The ram will probably hang near the bottom most of the time and the gouramii will hang on top. There may be some minor spats but I dont think it will be anything major. I have a betta in with my two bolivian rams and one in a while he will chase the rams but they just turn to face him and he swims away like a coward.

I think you should go with either the dwarf gourami or the ram, then a small school of cories or otocinclus cats for the bottom of the tank.
