I think my starburst polyps r dying?!

hello people,
i brought my star polyps almost 2 weeks ago but since then they have not come out and i have noticed the polyp casing is going brown, are these dying! i have placed them at the top of my tank with good water flow.

My readings are as follows:
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 10
calcium - 450
p.h - 8.3
temp - 26 celcius

what are you lights like?

And how did you acclimate them to your tank? They should be acclimated like any coral on a slow drip. If they are turning brown vs the normal purple color of the skin that covers the rock piece, I would guess that they are probably dying.

Hi i have got T5 lights and the polyps are near the top! and i acclimitised that for 2 hour 30 minutes add half a egg up ever 5 - 10 minutes and that what the fish shop recommended! Have i done anything wrong?

Not really, i have t5 and t8 lights and acclimitised mine for about an hour using a similar method (turkey baster of tank water into bag every 4 mins for an hour after 15 mins to get used to temp). Mine opened up within a couple of hours

No it sounds like you did it right. I do know that star polyps can take up to a week to come out from the time they are acclimated. But you said you've had them for two weeks. If you pull the rock out of the water does it smell bad?

I took it out the water and gave it a smell just smelled normal if normal smells like sea water! I moved them yesterday from the to of the tank to the bottom because thats where they were in the shop, i am running out of ideas!!!!

How many watts of lights do you have, what size is your tank, have you tried blowing off the brown with something like a turkey baster? Also can you post a picture it would help. If possible a nice clear macro shot showing the coral and brown area.

What other corals are there in the tank with this species?? After reading the above, it does sound to me like its suffering from allelopathy...the browning kind of points me towards this...

If you have other corals near by, what are they??

well the coral i have in my tank are a leather coral pulsing xenia and a staghorn coral but they are all spread out over the tank they are not next to each other. what is allelopathy???
