I want to change the gravel!

what i did was take 50% of the water out. catch the fish and put them in a holding tank. rubbermaid would be fine. i just used a cup to get the gravel out. put the new washed gravel in the tank filled it back up put fish back in. you might have a mini cycle but i had no signs of it.

I do it all at once. Maybe some bit of a mini cycle...just monitor and do water changes.

how is the sand to work with when you "gravel vac " your sand ?

I use Estes Spectra Stone gravel...its the best I think because all it needs is a quick rinse if that and its ready to put in the tank with no worries of little gravel particles clouding the water, so you wouldn't have to transfer your fish at all.
