Hello! I've been trying to downsize my empire for the last few months, which is why nobody has heard from me. I'm trying to sell my goldies as I am running out of time to look after them and I feel horrible for neglecting them (which breaks my heart!) The only thing left was my Endlers....I went to the fish shop today to get two more males as my gene-pool is getting a bit limited, and discovered they had a DP. So I bought him.
I have a cycled tank which I was going to put all my baby Endlers in while I decided what to do with all of them (I have about 40 in the main tank at the moment), so of course this turned into the DP tank. It is 8G with gravel, anubias, java fern and a 16G filter. I've set the temp at 72 F (22 C). Params are nitrates 10, nitrites and ammonia 0, pH 7.5.
Now, my questions are: is the pump too strong for him? I can reduce the current by wrapping a stocking around the intake and pointing it at the glass.
What kind of DP is s/he? He has orange eyes and I can't decide from internet pics. He is rather shy so whenever I point the camera at him he drifts to the back of the tank.
I have loads of pond snails in my Endlers tank - how many should I give him every day. There is a pretty good colony in the tank already as I put them in ready for the babies - but I'm sure he will eat them quickly, in which case I will need to add some. When I have deformed Endlers which I would be culling anyway, is it OK to put them in with him, or is this really gross and inhumane?
Finally (for those who were wondering) I negotiated a deal with the fish shop to exchange my baby Endlers for live food. Score!
