Just some additional information to clarify things. Low Doses of salt will work with most strains of freshwater ich, but a few have been documented survivng up to 5 PPT (parts per thousand) of salt. 2.5 teaspoons per gallon of regular table salt will land you in the 5 PPT range. I have never had ich survive 2 teaspoons per gallon, but have seen it survive lower doses a time or two.
If you empty the main tank nothing but time will be needed to kill the ich. it cannot survive without a host. If you leave the fish in the main tank and treat it with salt and heat, you will irradicate it. so either way you should not have an ich issue when the treatment of your fish is finished.
