ich/ick remover ?

i've heard and read that plain old table salt is fine for use in aquariums. i personally have not used the salt and heat method for ich, but thankfully (knock on wood!) i've only had to deal with ich once on a single betta in a large bowl and used an ich medication (Ick Guard), which worked very well. if i had to deal with this pesky parasite again, i will go the salt and heat route, since medicating a 55 gallon is a lil pricey...... lol.

if thats true, i need to stop wasting my money on these salts and use what i got in the kitchen lol

for my 2 cents SEACHEM PARA GAURD

im in the process of treating my tank with ich as well. only lost one fish because treatment came too late but my parrot with it is doing fine. the only problem is i lost 2 of my electric yellows in the process of treating the ich. any reason why this could be? i dont want the others dying as well. maybe its because the tempt is too high? ive been doing daily water changes, using ich medication, temps raised up to 86 degrees and adding salt. it seems to get rid of the fish with ich but killing the healthy ones? sorry to threadjack but hopefully this may benefical to the OP as well...

whoa! overkill on the attack against ick. if you are using a medication, use only the medication and follow the instructions on the bottle. if you are using the heat and salt method, use only heat and salt. sorry to make it seem like i'm :argue: but it is most likely the stress of the combined treatments that caused the deaths.

ohhhhh. gotcha! glad you told me that before i ended up killing the rest of my stock! thank you!

one more big thing people tend to overlook, raising the temp depletes usable o2 in the water, add an extra airstone when raising the temp and anytime adding ich meds of any type including salt, also, table salt is fine to use and better in some cases, deff. cheaper, and ich always gets worse before it gets better, after the last sign of white spots, continue treatment for atleast 3 more days at a minimum. good luck with the ich.
