ich in a 220 gallon aquarium

Well if you are positive it is ich, I would also recommend high temp and salt. If you are sweating the plants or pleco, move them to smaller tanks and treat them differently.

I do not believe I have ever witnessed a case of ich going away by just heat. You hear it a lot, but I prefer to think the cause of stress went away and the fish fought it off by themselves.

A tank that size, table salt cost will beat meds anyday.

i agree that constant exposure to salt can harm plecos and cories, but the short-term use of salt as an ich medication seems to be fine for them, at least in my experience, and probably safer overall than using a chemical/store bought medication. my ich outbreak was in a tank with tetras (the original carriers), angels, cories, and several small plecos. none of the catfish were harmed by the treatment. that was about 10 months ago and i still have all of them.
