ich in planted aquarium with nerite snails and amano shrimp

From what I understand, UV "sterilizers" don't work the best for treating ich, since not every drop of water passes through the system, neither do the fish that are carrying the disease. Heat (and salt I guess, even though I still don't recommend it in your situation) is able to effect 100% of the tank in ways UV sterilization can't.

This is a good idea to use after the persent Ich outbreak is cleared up. I installed one and really like the results. Like I said clear up the Ich then use one if you want they are great. I'm also not crazy about seperating the fish why treat two tanks when you can just get rid of it in the one tank. It's not that complicated don't make more out if it than what it is. Water change, heat, salt or no salt if it's not that advanced in a week it's gone.

I'm guessing that a handful is close to a tablespoon. It isn't so specific that you really have to measure. Be sure to use aquarium salt.

Recommending a UV sterilizer for ich is like recommending a bowel resection for a stomach virus. As in all things, simple is best. A little bit of heat, a little bit of salt and WHAMO! no more ich.
 
If you love buying equipment get a UV sterilizer. IME they are not worth the money unless you have A LOT of money invested in livestock (like high end discus) and the cost of the UV is nothing compared to the stock it could save at some point. Otherwise just do the most important thing and provide high quality food and water and fish will keep themselves healthy.
 
Again, thanks for the advice. That's what I love about AC... its strength exist in the various experiences of other hobbyist, whether they tell success stories or failures...I learn so much from both. My fish have already perked up and I will continue the treatment as recommended. It is business as usual for the inverts.

change 50% water and keep every parameter normal and steady for a week or two, fish will be fine.
ich to fish just like flu to human, fish are naturally immuned.
most of the time when new fish add in then ich emerge, more than likely the ich is from your tank but not the fish store tank, because most fish stores put chemicals in their tank to prevent ich, the chemicals also weaken the fish immune system.

Everyone I know that has more than two years fish keeping experience never ask any question on how to treat ich, they just ignore it.
 
Recently noticed that my clown loach was covered in ich. after looking closer a couple neons and rummynoses had it as well. I did the salt treatment and cranked up the heat. After 3 days there was no sign of ich at all. I have kept up the treatment for a week and plan to do a 50% WC tomorrow.

In the past i have used NO ICH (the blue stuff) and it ruined a 55gal of mine. All the seams were stained blue and still are a year later. It didn't work as well as the salt treatment anyways. I do not recommend it at all.
 
I recently had an ich out break from new green neons and I used Ich Cure . . planted tank with shrimp, I treated per dose recommendations just before lights out, followed with a 30% water change, redosed, took 3 treaments, no temperature elevation, no salt, no problem
