Ich or fungus???

Looks Too Big to be Ich

It looks too big to be ich. But the pH is also too low for goldfish. Goldfish need an alkaline pH or their protective slime coats erode. pH should be around 7.5 for goldfish, idealy.

So far I've got 40 tsps in the tank, still less than 1 tsp/gallon. Since I get up early I figure 11 is the latest I'll stay up giving me a total of 55 tsp which will be 1 tsp/gallon. I did 2 tsp/gallon for the 1st 5 hours then it sat overnight and started this morning with 3 tsp/gallon since 8 AM.

Now I go back to work tomorrow and work 12 hour days...Whats the maximum I can add at one time using 1 gallon of water. If I keep doing 3 tsp/gallon I'll only be able to add 3 tsp in the morning and maybe 12 tsp each night for a total of 15 tsp/day. At this rate it will take me another 4 days to reach 2 tsp/gallon saturation.

Whats the max I can safely up the tsp/gallon to? Could I up it to 5 tsp/gallon for the rest of the night. Then it will have a break of about 6 hours then another 5 tsp/ gallon after 13 hours. Then 5 tsp/gallon for 4 hours. Then the same the next day.

Could I go 10 tsp/gallon?

Or is it not as important to get to 2 tsp/gallon quickly? Just to get to it and keep it there for 2 weeks or so.

After extensive reading I figured it out.

There is no rush to get to 2 tsp/gallon saturation. I figure the otos brought it in and its been a week. That means I have a few days till they fall off and breed, which nothing kills them at this point. As long as my salt is at the saturation point by the time they are ready to hatch and swim I should be able to kill them.

I figure since I can't speed the cycle I'll do a 2 week treatment after I see the last spot.

Any other advice?

Nope. You've got your bases covered :)

Kinda strange but in a couple of your pics the spot patterns are almost exactly the same way they showed up in my goldies. The pic that has four in a square and the ones that seem to be in pairs. Weird.

Oh, and mine showed on the tails first as well. No flashing, nothing, so I wasn't sure and waited. I shouldn't have waited cause a couple of days later the flashing started and they got worse. If I'd just trusted my instincts (these were my first goldies though) I would have treated right away and it wouldn't have gotten them so bad.

They're fine now, but I coulda done better by them.

I just did a water change of 20 gallons or so which would be 40 tsps of salt. Do I add the 40 tsps back at one time since they were used to 2 tsp/gallon already or do I have to add it back slowly like before?

edit: Forget it I found the answer in my signature
