so, my 10 gallon has ich a week back, so i added 2 tablespoons of salt and raised the temp up to 80-85, the range is quite big because its almost summer now and..you know. Anyways, i have 3 cherry barbs, 2 otos and 2 clowns in there as im using the 10 gallon as a QT. But after 3-4 days of starting the treatmeant, the fish seems to be doing worse, more white spots now, should i increase the salinity and temp??:help:

with ich, it will almost always look worse before it gets better, since the increased temp is speeding up the life cycle of the ich, hence more spots on the fish.

i've only had to deal with ich once, on a betta in a bowl, and i used ick guard or some such treatment, not salt. hopefully somebody here that has used salt successfully will come along soon.

You have to add 2 tablespoons of salt PER ONE GALLON.

We had to deal with ick three times and salt was the best treatment. Not all the ick problems are the same. Once, it took over 2 weeks and once it took only 4-5 days to get rid of white spots from the fish. You have to keep treating your tank one more week after visual clearance to make sure complete treatment.
(We did 25% water change with 2 tablespoons of salt for every gallon of water for every other day. I am not sure this water change is desirable for ICK treatment or not though.)

Not sure about the oto or plants, but I do know that loaches aren't fond of salt. In the past, I've dosed 2tsp/gallon for some sick guppies and they were fine. Another thing you could try is to mix up some salt in another container with tank water and placing your fish in there as a salt bath.

And as one poster mentioned, it usually does look worse before getting better. If you're seriously concerned that you'll lose them, try Rid Ich.
