Ich treatment with salt

I have three red oscars and five pacus that have ich on their fins and sides. I started treatment with salt and turned up the temp to around 80. I put in a tablespoon per five gallons because thats what it said on the aquarium salt carton. Is this enough salt or should I continure to add salt on a daily basis. Any kind of info would help.

Besides adding salt and raising the temperature, consider adding Methalyne(?) Blue too. It really works.
If you are doing a regular water change, I would suggest you to continue adding the salt everytime, otherwise, I am not too sure if you should add any further.
 
Are those oscars in the same 55g as the pacu's? How big are all the fish? I think you may have identified why your fish are succumbing to parasites or sickness, you have to get those fish into bigger tanks and find a suitible home for those pacu's, I don't want to sound as though I am telling you what to do, but those fish with out a shadow of a doubt will die if you don't move them, and I mean soon. One oscar by itself in 55g would be pushing it. And as said before unless you can care for the fish you shouldn't buy them. I must admit if you were unaware of how big these fish grow, that can't be helped, but it would be good if you could do some research before buying them.
 
Btw you should not be using saltwater aquarium salt to treat your fish it has all sorts of minerals that freshwater fish do not appreciate in it, unless it is salt specifically for treating freshwater fish which should be fine. And one tablespoon per 5 gallons which is equivalent to 3 teaspoons will probably be not enough. If you are going to treat those fish in that 55g tank I would suggest 1-2 teaspoons per gallon, added very slowly after being disolved in a bucket beforehand.

This is the greatest article on treating ICH. I followed it to a T...the ICH in my tank resolved quickly and I have not had a reocurrence. You have more than enough salt at the present, don't add any more yet. Keep up your routine water changes and replace what salt you take out. Bump your temp up a little more like the article says. Don't add other meds, it will stress your fish out more.
The goofy Petsmart by me had a sticker on the pacu tank that says "suitable for desktop aquariums"...duh, no they arent. Ashdavid is right about the stocking level. If they are all little now, you're ok. but you'll need a biger tank soon.
 
Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone knows where the article that nursie mentions is at now. One of my tanks came down with ich and its been so long since I've had it that I dont remember the specifics on how to treat it. Plus, if I remember right, that article was like the holy grail for treating it. I hope it is still posted here somewhere...

I keep trying to access that thread and I do not have sufficient permissions to access that page.
