3 of my fishes died due to ich!
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I tried various methods to get rid of the ich from my reef tank, but now they are coming back. I would like to know what is the best of the best method to kill all ich from a reef tank? And how can I make sure the new fish has not ich? Since I have quite a lot of corals, medication with cupper seems not feasible...

Any really-reef safe medicine I can use, and how to use?
:help:

there are not any proven efffective methods that can be used in a reef tank.
here is what iw ould do
how many and what type/size fish do you have in your tank? The best method you can do is to get a small, cheap tank with only the stuff you need for them to survive. IE, heater, some water flow. You can use your tank water so a cyce would not be necessary. RUn the tank bare, ie, with no live rock or sand if you decide to dose copper. But i would use hyposalinity. This way, you can use some live rock instead of PVC pipes for the fish to hide in and more biological filtration. when using copper, you want to make sure there is no rock or sand because the copper could leach into it and seep out for years to come. But with hyposalinty, you can use rock. After transfering all yoru fish into the new, smaller tank, you can lower the specific gravity through a series of water changes with fresh RO water to a SG of about 1.009. Leave your fish in this state for 6-8 weeks and leave your display tank free of fish for 6-8 weeks. Ich is a parasite whos life cycle tends to last that long, so they will all die and your fish will be safe to add back into the tank. I have heard reports of ich also being able to remain in a dormant state if there is so fish oil or scent or anything in the water because no fish=no food. So some people prefer to feed their tank while the fish are still in the hospital tank to solve this. Also, it could prevent a mini cycle when you put yoru fish back in. and you coudl jsut feed yoru corals every day. They will tank you for it :)
good luck

my coral beauty was covered in ich i have been mixing liquid garlic with the food about a week later all the ich is gone and has not come back

Kent has a good product - garlic extreme. Put 2 - 3 drops on frozen food while it thaws and mix it thoroughly. Note I don't mix with saltwater as it dilutes the garlic. I have religiously used garlic and to this date never had ich ( 7 years of experience with the current setup and knocking on wood). As proof, I have a powder blue tang that never got ich even without an ultraviolet system. I attribute some of that to the feeding of garlic.

I agree with fishiness, the absolute best way is to leave your display tank fallow (without fish) for sixty days while you treat your fish in a bare hospital tank.

feed Spectrum anti-parasite food then use a half dose of myaxin. Ive used this method with coral and clams with no side effects. It also treats secondary infections caused by the white spot.

i used the kent liquid garlic one drop with the food no more than that it will actually stimulate their appetite too good luck.
