Hey guys, I noticed white spots appearing around on my common pleco's eyes. They are on his body, but are near on eye and part of his face. The dots appear to be ick, but I haven't added any fish for a month so how could he get it? I did have an ick infestation when I first started stocking, but that was easily 4-5 months ago, and I treated the tank with meds to save the few remaining fish. Should I put some meds in, or wait to see if it spreads?

I am curious for the input here also, as I just got through a small outbreak my self with out any new fish in over a month as well.

Ich is one of those diseases that can linger in a tank. Low levels of infestations (ie, in the gills, where it's not as visible) can then worsen if there's a stressful event. Treat, and treat for the full course plus 2 weeks past any visible sign. I prefer salt and heat to any medications, if the fish will tolerate it.

just cause you didn't see it doesn't mean it wasn't there.

You would probably be best off using the increase temp and salt method (as long as it is pleco safe) to kill off the ich.

Problem is, i have a weather loach in my 55 and he needs coolish water. He is about 5", would he be fine if I moved him to a 10g for the duration of the heat and salt method. Plus I think that loaches don't mix well with meds.

oh and in case anyone is wondering I meant to say that I theoretically have a weather loach. Bare in mind that I theoretically have one, and am curious as to what I should do with this problem.
