Ick in reef tank?

When I got home from work last night, my flame angel was swimming with half his body out of the water like a shark!!! All the others seemed to be breathing funny....I tested all the parameters on the QT tank and they were fine. I think that Quick Cure was really bothering them. I moved them back to the main tank for now and they seemed ok this morning. I realized when I first started with SW fish and had an ick problem I tried treating a flame angel and singapore angel with quick cure and they both died. At the time I just thought it was the ick had got to them but now I am thinking it maybe this medicine??? Recently I treated my dwarf lion fish with Quick Cure because the company (Aquarium Pharm)said it helps lyphocyctis.......he died on day 3 of treatment. Copper safe always works fine. Has anyone else seen this before???? I did a search last night before moving them back and saw others said Quick Cure burns the fish???? I've used it with feshwater fish before and never had these problems....

Yeah, I've had Quick Cure "burn" 2 of my fish in the past. I know it says to perform a 50% water change if the fish show any signs of distress during treatment.

I didn't know you had a Flame Angel. Flame Angels imparticular are extremely sensitive to copper, even in small amounts. I have two QTs set up just for that specific reason.

What's that saying I frequently see? Something like, "Sometimes the 'cure' is worse than the cause or disease..."? Somewhere along those lines.

You can always try the hyposalinity method and raising the heat, or just try to let it go away on its own, or trying a 'milder' med. It's really up to you. Freshwater baths may help them feel more comfortable. Cleaner shrimp would probably help too.

Do they all seem to eating okay still?

I'll let you all know how they are when I get home tonight. As of last night they were eating fine.

Here is what I have now:
Blue Tang, Flame Angel, Valentini puffer, Lunar Wrasse, 2 blue/Green Chromis and 2 clowns, 1 hermit crab, 1 green hairy mushroom and starburst polyps.

Everything looks good except the Flame Angel. It looks really bad, just laying on the bottom and breathing heavy! I don't think it is going to make it! I am extremely PO'ed! I'm going to write Aquarium Pharm a not so nice letter now! They say thier stuff is mairine safe, obviously not! Any suggestions on what i can do to save this guy?

Hi , I'm a newbe to this forum and if nobody minds I'd like to add my 2 cents in..... My live rock 55 gal. tank got ich after purchaseing a yellow tang at a local store. #1, yellow tangs are prone to repeat ich . #2 fresh water dips definately kill the ich;but the fish can not handle the pressure change and will eventually die. #3 raising the temp in the live rock tank to 82 degrees for 3 days without the fish in it worked. The life cycle of the ich sped up and died because of a lack of a host (the fish). During the temp increase days I did not feed any of my shrimps , crap, or amenones; they fed off the ich. And on day 4 I removed my goby from his hospital tank and returned him back to his home.

Hi seashells. :)

I am just wondering where you are getting your information from? I respectfully disagree with some of the points you brought up but am always open to learn something new.

Welcome to AC- newbie or not, opinions are always welcomed!

Flame Angel Survived! It's eyes were a little cloudy but seem to be improving. This poor fish had nothing wrong with it until I tried QT'ing all the fish. All fish are doing good now, I am feeding with Kent extreme Garlic and have my UV working. Hopefully that will be enough to fight off this ick. I don't see any more but I know it cycles. I'll keep a close watch! Thanks for your advise everyone!
